Thanks for visiting Web Sites for Tracking the U.S. Economy! This site grew out of requests to me by readers of my books on economic indicators. The latest is The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Economic Indicators (which is scheduled for release in September or October of 2009). Readers have called or emailed me regarding how to get data to help with some of the more detailed analysis discussed earlier books. Experienced professional economists and those working for financial or business organizations generally have an advantage in finding data that students and those working for small firms do not have.

For this latter group, this web site is dedicated toward providing web links for publicly accessible economic and financial reports and data as well as sites for economic news and analysis. For students and those new to the financial and economics professions, I hope these links--along with the The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Economic Indicators--help you move a little more rapidly along that career track. I also hope some of these links provide a little intellectual fun along the way.

This web site somewhat follows the strategy of the Economic Indicators--that of several layers of complexity. There are basic sites for economic news and sites for more detailed data. As with the book, sites cover needs of students and casual economy watchers to those of serious researchers.

The book has extensive discussion on tracking Fed monetary policy and this web site has extensive links on those issues.

The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Economic Indicators can be ordered at the Penguin Books’ site, Amazon.com, and Barnes & Noble online.
